Case 7: Cultivating a Creative and Innovative Culture
Client Situation:
Spurred by feedback from an employee survey and anecdotal observations
from management, leadership at a Fortune 500 organization wanted
to inspire a culture that supported innovation and prudent risk-taking.
They wanted to accomplish this, in part, by providing a mechanism
for employees to propose creative and innovative solutions to
business challenges.
Solution:
Cooke Consulting Group conducted focus groups with a cross-section of the employee population to:
- Further understand their assessment of how well the company was doing in terms of innovation;
- Clarify what they saw as obstacles;
- Begin "seeding the organization" with individuals who were enthusiastic about this potential culture shift.
We used a creative and memorable design in the focus groups and provided tools that participants could immediately apply on the job. We then partnered with Board management to design a pilot program to be rolled out.
Results:
Focus group participants and senior management are energized by what this creative problem-solving approach can contribute to the company's bottom line. In light of the challenging economic times and the need to do more with less, they believe tapping into the potential of their own team members will provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
