Case 1: Unleashing Potential for a Team
Client Situation:
A multinational organization had embarked on an extensive shift in organizational
culture and function. Under the leadership of a new president, the organization
was moving from a low-pressure climate that valued seniority and focused on past
successes to a forward-focused approach that raised the performance bar for the
organization and all its employees.
A manager new to the organization was charged with leading a team within the
international division. With a mix of long-term employees and newly hired,
younger employees, the new team needed to integrate its varied personalities
into a dynamic, functional group.
Solution:
Cooke Consulting Group met with all employees individually to assess how to best
enhance their team effectiveness. We designed an offsite workshop to address their
issues (understanding reactions to change, clarifying a vision that incorporates
change the organization requires, learning about individual differences and appreciating
what those differences bring to the overall team). We also coached management on how to
continue and sustain the team development process after the workshop.
Results:
Formerly skeptical team members were extremely satisfied with the process.
They felt relationships were stronger, they better understood the work to be
done and they believed their team truly had the potential to achieve the organization's
overarching vision for their function. One individual commented, "It was the best session
I ever attended." Management was impressed with the team's progress during the offsite
meeting. The team continues to build upon the foundational work accomplished through
this process to unleash the potential of the team as a whole as well as its individual
members.
